and show her my love with my actions. What
would I appreciate if the tables were turned? I
can pick up her groceries (I’m going anyway),
I can drop off a meal or give a gift card to help
with things to purchase. A pretty plant or a
nice card can be a pick-me-up when she is
alone and just needs to remember she is loved
and not really alone. I can attend her doctor’s
appointment with her to help remember what
is said and to share the burden of any scary
news. There are thousands of things that say, “I
love you and care about you so let me help you
with . . ..”
And finally, I try to remind her that she is so
much more than someone who has cancer. She
is a great wife and parent and grandma. She is
a very smart and accomplished professional.
She is kind and compassionate and supportive
to others. And, she is my dear, dear friend.
The care you need is
present
but not in your way.
Just because Mom or Dad may need some
extra help doesn’t mean they’ve lost their
sense of independence.
Our Assisted Living communities offer that
helping hand, and Mom can still live her life
the way she wants.
