After the children left home, he and Polly moved
to Amarillo, where he went back to school to
learn about property appraisals. He worked as
an independent land appraiser, along with doing
contract mapping and aerial photography in
Canyon and Amarillo, for a few years. Donley
County offered him the opportunity to serve as the
manager of the Donley County Appraisal District
which he did – that, plus the mapping business –
for the next 20 years.
